Ian Hickman, Metal Craft Industries Uk Ltd. My principal job is product engineering, I have worked at MCI for nigh on thirty years and my engineering experience built within the industry of Sub Contract Engineering manufacturing has seen many changes: understanding our customer’s needs with the peaks and troughs and to take the unpredictable in my stride. MCI offer a personal service, we work on behalf customers turning their concepts in to products.
I like problem solving, and the fact that every problem is different. No two customer projects are the same each project has unique problems that we look to solved in different ways. I also like to move our engineering forward, keeping up with new technology and developing new manufacturing methods to every project. I like to keep learning something new and putting it in to practice with my engineering team. Sub contract product sheetmetal engineering is definitely a team effort, and I like working with all my colleagues on the team to make projects successful.
The great thing about being an engineer at MCI we get such a variety of products to make and figuring out best methods to satisfy the end user is my satisfaction, MCI is a company that supports continual learning by supporting formal training, but also through the informal transfer of knowledge to and from colleagues, designers and engineers with whom I am in daily contact with. I am always amazed at the level engineering expertise at this company and the willingness of everyone to share it.

I decided to become an engineer because I always enjoyed making things and problem solving and figuring out how things work and to prove to myself that I really could do it better and build products better and more efficiently, and make our Lasers, punches, brake presses weld assemblies, tube benders and finishes more productive and to help designers to achieve their objectives. What I enjoy most about being an engineer is that each day brings a new challenge which requires continuous learning and looking forward to our new tubular laser being installed May 5th, roll on. ...
